HOW FAR FORWARD WILL THE AXLE SIT
« on: Feb 17, 2012, 10:37:17 PM »
I AM BUILDING A 1987 2WD TOYOTA PICKUP. I WANT TO RUN 35" TIRES.
WHAT LIFT WORKS UP FRONT?
IF I BUY A IFS SWAP, HOW FAR FORWARD WOULD IT PUSH THE AXLE?

Depends, are you still wanting to run 4wd?

Why would you want a IFS SWAP, you already have IFS on a '87 2wd?

There's lots of lifts that work up front for 35's.  I have Marlin's 4" kit on my '85 with his spring hanger too and clear 35's easily.  I believe my axle is 2" forward of stock.  Marlin doesn't sell this kit anymore, but Allpro does.

Lots of guys are putting rear springs up front and adding leaves to the pack to get the lift/flex they want.  The top leaf is what determines how far the axle gets shifted forward due to the distance between the hangar and the center pin on the leaf pack.  Rear leaf packs on a toyota vary in lenght and pin location.  Do yourself a favor and read up on this if you go this route - it can be less expensive, but involves a lot of trial and error getting things right - unless you learn from someone elses mistakes.  Do a search for "rears up front" and see what comes up.....

Or you could not be a richard and help the guy out this aint pbb chil it dude how may time you gotta be told?

you have a 2wd frame to do the sas to.  the arch is better for clearance purposes.  you can clear 35's with a 5 or 6 spring 3rd gen ruf pack ( they are the longer 51 inch springs) and for rear springs id run either f15 or 63" chevy rears.  basicly with a run swap depending on where you place your spring hanger determins how far foward your tires move.

most builds end up somewhere around 2.  but with that running hi steer your tie rod sometimes will hit the draglink when flexed. so you have to rotate and/or move your stering box foward.

ive never seen lowrange's kit so i couldnt say but its much cheaper if you know how to build your own.  and the site wont let me look at the toyota products right now ill get back to you on what i think of it

You can build your own springs for $150, a spring hanger kit with frame tubes and jigs is around $150, then you need high steer marlins kit is nice about $400, and a axle rebuild kit is around $150. So for $800-900 you could have a sas kit. Shock hoops are easy to make.

well, I seen a 4runner with the 4" springs up font and 5" springs in the rear. I dont want to go that high it looked really top heavy for hardcore wheeling (no offence). id rather cut fenders than lift till you can run 37s

quick search
http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=86265.0;highlight=lift+tires
lots of build threads come up and its easy to see what they are running with their tire size as well
...
..
.
depending on what brand of spring or model of truck the spring is depends on how far it will push the axle forward...
but since your doing a SAS then you can pretty much decide where you want the axle to sit within reason on placement on the shackle and spring hanger
