IFS gear change
« on: Feb 12, 2012, 09:34:34 PM »
I know most you guys are prolly SAS fellas, but I have an IFS front end with 4.88's and a lock rite locker.  How difficult would it be to bring it back to the open diff and get rid of the locker?  Never done one before, is it something a do-it-yerselfer can do?

put a set of spiders in it

i actually just watched my buddy help another buddy do this yesterday..but we plated his spiders up and welded her up
it's fairly easy after watching it to put spiders back in the carrier

just gotta rip it all apart, and hardest part is re-setting backlash on the 3rd member

You may have answered your own question, find someone SAS'ing their rig. Most are just tossing the IFS axle in the junk pile and would gladly give it to you. Then you could sell your set up axle for some $.

Or better yet find someone wanting that setup and swap them.

Luckily I have an extra IFS front end so I figured I could get the spider gears out of it.  I just dont know what to do after that :)  I'm hoping its not to hard, just never done one or seen it done

Glad your saying its easy.  I figured my options were either pay someone, or screw it up and then pay someone :)  You didnt take any pics by chance did you?  Or use a picture reference from website?
