2 questions - choke and heater
« on: Dec 10, 2011, 07:12:48 AM »
first question, imnot sure if its supposed to work like this but the choke works when its cold, but in order for it to  idle down, i have to push the gas pedal down, i thought it was suposed to just idle down on its own when it gets warm? is there a wire or something that i might need to hook up?

2nd, my heater sucks, my piss gives off more heat than my heater does....with my truck at 170 deg. the defrost is maybe 50 deg.?? maybe the heater is clogd or something?

Is the heater running hot and the defrost isn't?

I had the same problem with my heater and I thought there might be air in the heater core so I pulled one of the hoses at the heater core and forced water through it then put the hose back on and toped off the radiator, now I have heat.

I am assuming you are talking about an 80 so I'll go with that, if you are leaving it in the vent position you will not get heat you have to have it in the defrost or floor position to get heat. Could also be the valve is not opening or not fully opening it is on the firewall, pull the cable and see if you can move it by hand. There is also a flap in the heater box also operated by a cable, you can usually hear it open and close when you move the lever from vent to floor. I currently move the valve on the firewall on my 85 by hand to open or close it, I mostly leave it open all winter and close it come summer. You don't have to worry about leaving it open since if you move the lever to vent it effectively closes the heat off.
