W56A Gave up The Ghost
« on: Nov 25, 2011, 05:06:59 PM »
So I'm driving back from Coyote Lake in Oct. back to Bako and after about 100 miles of driving 70ish in 5th the truck wouldn't go anymore. When I let the clutch out it starts to grind. Pulled the transmission and it seems like the problem is behind the section the bellhousing bolts to. Turns really rough and the shaft is a little sloppy. Anybody have an idea of what gave out? ???

Tore it down as far as the bearing on outside. Seems a little deeper inside but I haven't figured out how to pull the two sections a part.

Keep going :) Tear that thing down and see whats blown up. Sounds like an input bearing but I'm not a transmission guy.

That looks like my sisters old input shaft from her 76 corona.

But she didn't have any damage on the counter-shaft.

Old input shafts make great clutch alignment tools..........

Had it rebuilt by Anaheim Gear and very pleased. They picked it up on Tuesday for free and had it done and back on Thursday.
