info . is a g54 a good tranmission

hey guys or gals . i found a transmission . out of a 85 truck . it's g54 . is it a good one . or should a wait and find a diffent one . it's going in a 80's truck ?

The 85 and newer W56 are supposed to be better.

Depends on what's in front of, I would say.  Small block Chevy, no.  Stock 20R, sure.  I have my stock, 228K mile, G52 behind a 3RZ and haven't had any trouble in 25K miles since the swap was complete a few months ago. 

33" tires, stock 4.10 gears for now.  I have V6 4.88 thirds & a W56B trans if they fail though...  But figured I'd wait til 35s come....

Better than an L-series weaker than a W-series

If you're looking for assurance, then you should find comfort in knowing that Toyota felt the G-series transmission reliable for use behind a fuel injected 22R-E in a heavy, full bodied 2nd generation 4Runner.

my buddy has been running one forever.he has a 22re,dual cases,529s,lockers and 36"tsls.he runs the crap out of it.ive seen him blow up diffs,shear hubs and blow up a 30 spline chromo long.w56 is stronger but maybe not needed.
