Differential break in
« on: Nov 02, 2011, 09:28:23 PM »
I read marlins break in procedure and I understand it but was wondering if using synthetic to start with would be good or not as far as letting the gears settle? Or does it not matter?

I would not use a synthetic for break in. It is too slick and won't allow for the proper materials to be removed and compacted on the gear surfaces. Once you break in the gears and change the oil for the first time (usually about 500 miles) then you can use a synthetic. Besides, you wouldn't want to dump the oil at 500 miles at the cost of the synthetic oil and then find out that they still weren't broken in right because of the use of synthetic.  :beerchug:
