Can't find 4th!
« on: Sep 16, 2011, 11:47:50 PM »
Well, my buddy just picked up an 86 4runner...and truth be told, it was a pretty sweet deal. The only issue with the truck, and it was stated before the sale, is that it's VERY hard to find 4th gear. Not impossible, but very hard. It does not grind, it does not clunk. It's almost like there is something blocking it from going into gear. Does anyone have any suggestions? Other transmissions i've messed with have adjustable shift forks...so if this is happening you can just adjust it. I'm clueless on these transmissions though.  :smack:

You can try replacing the shifter bushing, it's cheap and easy to do.   4th is the output shaft so it usually won't be the one that fails.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
