what clutch/flywheel for 4.3 swap
« on: Feb 10, 2005, 02:00:54 PM »
ok, gathering parts for 4.3 swap. to a sm420 trans.
need to know which clutch to use.
my 4.3 is currently a manual trans one with i believe a 10.5" 153 tooth flywheel.
can i just mix and match a new disk with a stock pressure plate?
looked up the pilot bushings and they are the same # so i am good there.
just cant find the right clutch.

thanks, derek

hhmm, looks like it is listed as an 11" clutch with a 1 1/8" 10 spline input.
which looks like the same as the older chevy light truck clutches.
maybe it will be easier than i thought.
i will see if my stock clutch will line up with the sm420 splines.

What year is your 4.3?  Is 153 t a stock flywheel?  Im looking to do the same (but up to my 5 speeed) but I would like to save $$ on a flywheel and get one from a salvage yard and A.A makes it sound like you need to buy theirs.  My 4.3 is a 1988 tbi.

mine is a 91 tbi.
was a 5 speed to begin with.
so i think the clutch is the same, they are both 1 1/8" 10 spline input shafts.
and the pilot bushing is the same part number.
think i will get a centerforce clutch, probably just a stage 1 or 2 though.
