Revolver Shackles

Does anyone out there have these revolver shackles made by Teraflex?
And if so, are you having problems with the plastic saddles?

Only problem I've seen is my friend was able to melt his pretty good with the exhaust when he first got them. Rerouting the exhaust did the trick..  :~~: =  :smack:

The plastic sucks. I put them on my SOA shackle reversed FJ40. When I installed them there was no mention of "sag" now they hit the springs. I am going to move the front mounts forward, too big a job for the problem. I may try to make some new plastic replacements first. Are you thinking of remaking the plastic parts?

I've made 5 sets of these saddles out of what I believe to be better choices in material. The guy I made them for is testing them on 2 jeeps now. I believe the original material to be Acetal (Delrin), which tends to get brittle with age. And if the Acetal is white in color, it is not UV stablies, and the sun's UV rays makes this worse. On the next batch of parts we make we are going to lessen the depth of the radius on the saddle, this should take care of the sag. I'm always looking for another test subject, so if some of you guys what a set, let me know.

i am in for a set! Delrin is brittle to begin with and I would not be surprised to hear of them snapping at the low point of the radius. :shake:  What is the new material?? UHMW?? I also have a problem with the center bushing. It is getting chewed. Maybe because of hitting the spring :dunno:

The 5 materials I started with are: Nylon 6/6 natural; Black Nylon 6/6; Zytel ST801 (heat stabalized, impact modified nylon); HDPE; and of course UHMW (in a beautiful Kelly Green).
Tommy's (the guy I made these for) saddles split right at the base of the radius.
I'm going to bet on the Black Nylon, but the UHMW might do well.
The nylon also has a higher constant use temp. 212F compare to 160 for UHMW & 180 for Acetal.

To all,
I'd like to redesign these and make them better, but I need someone to send me an old one, not even a set. If someone does this I will give them a set of the redesign for free!!!

Has anyone seen Curt Hildebrand's New Item. I'm not talking about the Z boxes.

I had a chance to ride in his Scrambler. He has this new part that takes place of the shacle and shock. I was amazed at how stable the truck was on the road. Jerking the wheel, tight turns at speed. It was amazing since it was riding on 35's. We also drove the truck onto my 36" swamper and it flexed well.

Here are 2 picture I found on the web. You can barely make out the Item. (I don't think he has a name for them yet) but you can tell he has no shocks. He already sold the design to BDS, may be out in a year or 2. Note the plastic on the rockers!

Hint if you ever want to find the site of a pic just hit the Quote button. Then look at the post and it will show the UBB code for the pic. Shorten it to find the website.

It says on the 4x4wire article he wasn't allowed to say what it looks like. Also I have another trick for finding out where a picture came from. Right click on the picture and choose properties.

You might want to skip revolver shackles alltogether and go with a set of Downey cantilever shackles.  I believe the price is the same but the Downey's are built tough.
I have a set on the rear with 4"soft springs and the ride is awesome, on highway or offroad.  And I no longer feel washboard roads anymore at all.  Now if I could figure out how to put a pair on the front of my 83 toy truck.
