o2 sensor?you said after it starts you smell it right?is it puffing black smoke,,running rich,,how do the plugs look?maybe carb is leaking some fuel into system..Geez with that much usage you would think it would run real crappy,or all over the ground..4 miles,,Yikes! :dunno:

OH OH OH,,I got it,,use this to find the problem~ :~~:

You will love this,,,toyota wants like 80$ for theres.I would not use any other brand at all!!!I used to do smg checks in california and had this problem constantly.Only use factory o2 sensors. For some reason aftermarket sensors can't get the calibration down right or as close as oem.So basicly they might work, but I find they wont pass the smog check. This runs into problems and it took me a while to figure out,but the o2 sensor will show or test working but still not giving correct reading,,Yea,The dealer gots ya by the balls. :b_s:..Even the good ones like bosh don't wotk right.see the oem does not give out specs on this sort of stuff so aftermarket kind of have to guess where to set parmeters on sensors. This is true with alot of sensors.anyway its bunk,I odn't like it but I see it all the time..I don't know thats your problem but its a start.Dude,,toss that toyota alt away and convert to a delco alt.a basic mid 80's chevy alt.it will bolt on to you bracket if you have the toy internal regulator.I swaped mine and just had to space the bottom bolt to make it work right,(the rear half for pully alighment..its about 20-30 bucks cheaper and more powerfull...the wireing is a snap.the plug for it is like 5 bucks at napa..I hope this work for ya..you might want to check your o2 sensor before you buy a new one..pull it out and heat it up with a small porpane touch ,(not your plasma cutter :smack:)put you dvom on it testing the ohms,,if it varies in ohms its working..if not replace it..let me know whats up..good luck,,hope this was some help anyway..lots of    and you won't notice the crappy mileage...

It's been a while but 22R is still carbed right? I used to replace lots of auxilury (sp?) accelerator pump diaphrams. 4 screws hold it to the side of the carb and it has a vacuum hose to it. Most of the time if it's bad the vacuum hose will have gas in it if you pull it off. I think you can even get it at a Napa.
