Choke Breaker problem
« on: Apr 28, 2011, 09:54:22 PM »
its an '81 CA carb'd.
*Most* of the time when i start it and it warms up the choke breaker kicks it down until last step then it gets stuck, no matter how i push/jab/floor the pedal it stays on. i figured out when i pull the vac line off the breaker it drops down to hot idle. then i put the vac back on and its good.  Wasnt doing this before i rolled it and swapped the body. Also it comes back on when driving/wheeling on occasion.
Maybes-
Bad diaphragm
clogged vac
bad vsv
linkage

Any Ideas? im at a loss :hammer:

well you should be able to test the diaphragm with your mouth and a piece of vac line, i would look more at the vsv and is the correct hose going to the other side, etc

Ok so i turns out what i thought was the choke breaker was the Throttle Position diaphragm. I adjusted it back to factory settings using the screw, and now when it stays on the 3rd step its around 11-1200 rpms but it still wont kick down all the way. I will check the actual choke breaker diaphragm tomorrow and try the vsv. but im starting to think could the butterflies and linkage just need some lube? And i know all the vaccums lines are correct and not leaking at all.
Could the choke coil maybe hav moved when i rolled my truck, it was kind of violent and maybe the element got adjusted?
Any more ideas would be great
