looking for a steering column u-joint
« on: Apr 19, 2011, 12:03:00 PM »
Does anyone know where to get one of those u-joints that goes on the steering column, aftermarket that is.  There are two; one by the firewall and one by the power steering pump.  I'm looking for the one near the firewall.

I've got an '81.  Toyota said there are three varieties and needed my VIN to identify the proper one, and the truck is at home now.  I'm at work now, not working.  I was a bit suprised when they told me that they all cost $86 a piece.  :yikes: This seems a little rich for my blood.

Anybody got any suggestions for a cheap a$$ like me.

I think I have a used but good one.  I could pull it for like $10 but I would think napa or somebody could get you one...

Did you have power steering or not?  Pics would be good to identify for sure.

Yeah I think I'll see if i can get napa to let me dig through their stock...maybe one will match up.  May snag some calipers from school for an afternoon to make sure it matches up.  Orielly's didn't have one or the ability to order it earlier, but if anyone had one i would think napa.

May be easier to pull and replace whole shaft if i go used......  We'll see.  I got rear brakes, rear wheel cylinders, clutch slave cylinder, and crappy holly carb to rebuild in the mean time.  It's my daily driver (including out of town) and I haven't really done any major work on it in the past year.  Guess I shouldn't let  :toilet: :bricks:.

I'll keep you in mind H8PVMNT.  Sometimes it's hard to find these trucks in the yards here around Memphis.

I have another guy over here that has a huge stock of Toyota parts who will have one if I don't.  I'll bet you find one new somewhere though.
