'94 Camry
« on: Apr 03, 2011, 11:33:57 PM »
ok so its not my 4runner but i need some help. I have a 1994 Toy Camry drives excellent but today i got into it and turned the key and NOTHING, the lights lit up check engine oil and all the other lights but the starter did not engage no clicking noises nothing. i did it about four times popped the hood looked at the starter and tried to wiggle the wires and they all seemed to be tight. there might have been a little bit of corrosion or buildup on the connections but thats it. Well i shut the hood got back in tried it and it started. Oh also i could not get the transmission to shift out of park while it was off. No check engine lights are on. If anyone can help that would be great i know i have learned tons when it comes to 22re's and 5speed transmissions but i'm clueless when it comes to this camry. Thank you in advance.

Could be the neutral switch or was not in park completley? If when you tried to shift it while it is in the off position it won't shift until you turn the key on. FYI there is a small cover on the shifter base pop it open stick your key/screwdriver in, push down and shift to any gear you want even with the car off. You say you giggled the wires and such so you may have an issue there since when you got back in it started. I've never had an issue with my Camry and it is a 94 also.

try to jump the starter, basically run a hot line the starter solenoid to see if it cranks. if it works its something with your key side of the ignition
