Maybe getting an FJ80 (1992 flavor)
« on: Jul 15, 2011, 09:06:52 PM »
So I've given up on rebuilding my reg cab 84 POS and am looking into bigger rigs for camping gear/storage/dog room. This puppy popped up on craigslist; I emailed about a "buy it now" price... waiting to hear back.

I'm guessing it has the I6 engine and an auto trans; my first dilemma/question is:

Can I stuff a 3.4 in there? And still use the same trans (I doubt it) or can I stick a 5-spd in and make it all work?

I'm just starting to browse the FJ section so I'm still trying to figure out these dang huge things. The earlier post about duals beihnd these trans scared me... $3800 or something like that? Holy f**k!   :yikes:

If you are wanting a crawl box or lower Tcase gearing you are going to be limited to a very few options.
Take the opportunity and change the drive train for something with more options and more power, IMO the V6 would be a little underpowered in these heavy trucks.
