The h4 conversion or the bulbs? They are nice, all of it.

They are good.  But for a cheap way out and a lot of light, the Kragen HIDs kick butt.  They are 89$ a piece on sale.

where can you find kragen HIDs for $89? i've always seen $130.. for the 7" and $115 for the 4"

He's right, they have gone on sale for 89.99 for the 4" before. it doesn't happen very much but it does happen.

the hella's are good, can always swap in 100w bulbs for a few bucks too.

Kragens are cool if you want to upgrade after, they don't have a wiring kit, its just the light. (can be dropped into the same wiring as the hellas fyi)

I would recomend getting the hella H4 conversion for your sealed beam driving lights first. They are a great upgrade to start with, and if you end up needing more light you can always get an extra set of mounted lights later, and you'll have good output on all 4 bulbs rather than just the two mounted.

I've seen the full conversion kits WITH bulbs for around $100 on ebay. Another good upgrade is to upgrade your light wiring harness that way you get direct power to the bulbs rather then sending it through the switch on your steering column. That gets kind of pricey though. and I don't have the information off hand. I'll try to find the guy that makes them.

Roger Brown over on 4x4wire in the older Toyota Section known as 4Crawler has lots of good information see his write up http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Headlights.shtml.

Good luck

Great information, thanks for posting it. Upgrading headlamps to H4 E-codes is one of the best mods you can do. I'd stick with a reputable European brand... Hellas are easy to find and cheaper than Cibies (not sure about Bosch). And the relay mod is also well worth it (if your vehicle doesn't already have headlamp relays) even for stock headlamps -- and highly recommended with upgraded lamps. If you can do basic wiring, it's not at all expensive.

I think what he's talking about is the same thing I mentioned. It's basically just running a direct wire w/ fuse to your headlights from the battery. Typically your headlight wiring is run up into your headlight switch and then from the switch back to the headlights. This causes some power loss. The relay mod is simply running direct power to a relay, then running your headlight wiring into the relay, then run wire from the relay to the headlight. It helps brighten up your lights a bit.

You can do it yourself or you can buy plug-and-play kits that have soldered connections and heat shrinked and all that jazz.
