R151f output seal obsolete
« on: Mar 01, 2011, 10:33:27 AM »
I Went to order the output seal for the r151f transmission I am putting together today and it appears to be obsolete at the toyota dealer. ( I Work there and checked my self) There is no supperesission to a new number.

I need to find the correct number for the seal to see if it is the same as an r150 4wd output seal. I have an r150 2wd that i used parts from but its output seal is larger. The probelm is that when i look on the timken site for the oil seal it says that the output seal is the same for all of the r150's with no difference between 2wd or 4wd so I don't trust it.
If anybody has an r150 4wd seal or rear case to measure the diameters that would be awsome.

Shawn

UPDATE Found this link here where BIGMIKE mentions that the obsolete seal number 90311-34011 fits all trucks with 23 spline inputs (turbo trucks and v6 trucks up to 1995.  http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?;topic=109.0

So i looked up a 1993 4runner v6 and got a part number 90311-40007. i double checked the seals dimensions on an skf seal site and the dimensions are not correct. I need one that is apox 1.34" (shaft od) and 2.074" od (case bore dia). The v6 truck seal appears to be larger.

Marlin's store lists one. It's his heavy duty output seal and he sells them for both 21 and 23 spline outputs.

When I rebuilt my R151F, Marlin no longer offered rebuild kits. My local drivetrain parts supply had everything. They just needed the number of the input bearing to get the correct kit.

I'm actually a little concerned with marlins 23 spline seal as all of the v6 trucks use a differnt seal and this one seems to be r151f specific, although i wpould love some more marlin seals. I also live in Canada and want to get the cases on and get it off my workbench.

I have found 2 part numbers with the proper dimensions.

SKF 13435

and

National Bearing 710418

Now it seems to be a bit of an adventure to track one down. I was hoping to find a new toyota seal number but i think that thats not going to happen anymore.

It sucks to be held up by just a simple seal. I got all my parts from Transmission Products in Tucson. They were very knowledgeable.

Good luck, I hope you find  it.

Maybe post it here for future reference once you do.

IMPOSSIBLE to source locally. Although in trying to determin the aprox size i learned that i could infact slap the cases on and pop in the seal easily later as it seals to the transfercase input.

Ordered up 2 High Quality  :turtle: Eco seals. 1 for a spare since I will never find them locally.
