How to fix Congress
« on: Mar 08, 2011, 08:49:20 PM »
Found this and made me think,

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits. 12 years only, one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay
when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to theSocial
Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social
Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all
Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in
the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective
1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s),
then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only
take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message.
Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!! If you agree with the above, pass it on.
Build it right or get off the trail

I thought this was going to be a picture of a firing squad.  :dunno:

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it because kids who weren't old enough to vote were being sent to Viet Nam to fight & die for their country. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.
Fixed it for ya

As to the rest of the email.... lofty goals. Admirable, yes, but so lofty as to be unattainable. Entrenched systems are tossed out in their entirety only by total overthrow. That being unlikely (men with full bellies might talk of revolution but will not participate in one), better to persue reasonably achieved goals.  :twocents:

Dictator??  More like trade one set of problems for a different set of [much worse] problems.

For all our faults, why do you suppose so many people aspire to live in the US?

china isn't doing that bad, especially for owning the super power of the world  :hammerhead:

dictators just simplify the problem, one party, one decision. if it doesn't work, revolutions occur and we have now a country that is based on what the people want.

just my 2 cents

Best this would be to just give the country back to the people like it was originally and get rid of the gov't all together
Build it right or get off the trail

Elections on the two party system rarely ever have over 55% of the vote going to one candidate, meaning roughly half of us believe in governing one way and the other half believe governing the opposite way.  A Dictator can't be both so half the population wouldn't like who is in power.  I for one wouldn't think a dictator would "simplify the problem" if said dictator didn't believe in governing the way I wanted him to.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

in order for a dictator to work, what ever party that dictator was from, the other side isn't going to be around after that person takes charge

Seriously?  You want to be told what to think?  I have a brain and want to do what we're supposed to, have REPRESENTETIVES, not somebody who has free reign to do what they want.  Next thing I expect you to say is that you think the government should pull those from their homes who don't agree with the government out into the streets and shoot them.
