Air shock psi?
« on: Dec 24, 2010, 09:42:07 PM »
Switched over to 2.5x16 from 2.0x14. With the 2.0's I was running 340lbs and now with the 2.5's I only need 80. Does that seem strange to anyone else?? What are you guys running for preassure in you 2.5's?
thanks

I use to run 275 with fox 2.0s.... makes sense that the 2.5s would take less psi cuz they have more surface area.

Yes it takes less pressure in 2.5's due to increase in surface area of piston

Example:

2.0 piston surface area is 3.14sq-in multiplied by 200psi=628.3185 lbs of force

OR

2.5 area is 4.9sq-in multiplied by 128 psi= 628.3185 lbs of force

So less air pressure but applied over bigger area is the same force

Later

Crashed
I was so scared I think a little bit of pee came out!

Just remember the air pressure isn't the spring rate, its only the ride height. The oil volume controls your spring rate.

exactly!! with air your only adjusting the ride height, so if its at the ride height you want but is too soft, then put some extra oil in them.

WHOA! Easy there buddy:)
I already knew all the other stuff about ride ht (thanks for the responses) just thought that was a crazy drop in psi from 2.0's to 2.5's

OR

2.5 area is 4.9sq-in multiplied by 128 psi= 628.3185 lbs of force

So less air pressure but applied over bigger area is the same force

WHOA BRAIN? WOW I feel stupider now. Thanks for all the replies, I am aware of the ride ht and the fact that its not "air" but thanks for all the replies. I guess I needed to put more emphasis on the fact that I was dropping soooo much preasure going from 2.0's to 2.5's. Just seemed excessive...
