i hear just doubling up the two rear pack you have always works good, a lot of guys run that, but than again its personal preference so build it how you would want it, just have to play with it

Well first you need to consider your axle placement. need to measure the main leafs on all 3 and see where it is going to locate your axle. once you find one that puts your axle where you want it with a good shackle angle then just add the leafs to it for height and comfort. Typically between 3 -4 leafs per side. set the truck down on it and see how it sits. keep in mind that the springs will settle almost an inch or two after about a week or so. Hope that helped a little.

arent the 3rd gen springs 51 inches and move axle 1.5 forward and the first gen 48 2 inches forward? can i combine those two or will they not work because of the length difference

you can pick the main leafs you would like to use and then use the extra leafs out of other packs to build what you want.  Just start trying some and see how it sits.

yea most people go with a 5 or 6 leaf pack for ruf its all in trial and error really put 2 of the same packs together and instal it see how it looks then add or remove springs till you like it

with the 2wd 3rd gens being longer than the first gens would it be better to use those for the main leafs?

you must have a rough ride if you put a stock rear pack up front and left the over load in it :headscratch:
