Front Range Full Floater
« on: Dec 23, 2002, 04:31:51 PM »
I'm thinking of getting the F.R. full floater kit. Anybody have it? Do you like it? If you don't have it, what do you think? I know it is expensive, but I like the fact that you get disc brakes and you make your axle stronger at the same time. I need better braking and I'm starting to worry that my 37" tires and 200+ crawl ratio could snap an axle. Give some feedback if you have time. Thanks

I like it.  It is a good kit overall and the calipers work well with the stock master cylinder.  The only problem I have is the e-brake wont hold on a hill.  That might be adjustable but I haven't played with it much.

I LOVE it!  I didnt use the rear disks with a parking break.  Im using an All Pro t-case disk kit.  The kit is tough that's for sure.     :.order:

Thanks RORE and LWB_Samurai_Joe. I like what I hear so far. Do you know if it is possible to run vented Landcruiser rotors and IFS calipers with the kit. If you can swap these parts onto a front axle I would think you could do the same to the rear. I would possibly need a M.C. upgrade with the bigger callipers though. Most likely I will use a t-case parking brake, so I don't need calipers with a built in parking brake mechanism.

One more thing. Do you guys run the locking hubs or wheel flanges? I would like to run the hubs but I've heard that with other F.F. kits the hubs can unlock themselves from time to time. Warn drills the hubs and adds a set screw, on the hubs that come with their F.F. kits.

I am running the locking hubs.  As of yet I have not had one unlock on me, however, I have had the front ones unlock from time to time so it could happen.  If you are worried I would go with the fj-80 covers.

Im running the flange from an FJ80.  I dont tow, so I didnt need the hub.  Ultimately the flange is stronger.

I upgraded my front end to the vented disks and the upgraded calipers too.  I then used the brake stuff from my front in the rear.

PS, I installed the power booster, and the master cylinder from an FJ80.  YEE HAW, talk about brakes!  I can lock up my 42" swampers no problem!!!

Maybe not unlock but do this?

I got my flanges from FR.  BUT, you can buy them new from the dealer, or go junk yard crusing for the FRONT end of an FJ80!
