Thats what I've seen so far.  I'd like to build a daily driver that I can take on some of the easier trails.  I've read that the EFI I-6 had better power than the carb version but V8 would be soooo much nicer.  I just wondered if the trans and transfer are one unit like the 2nd gen 4Runners are.  Can anyone tell me?

No, they are separate. A v8 would be nice but could be a pain depending on the state you are in. Smog etc. There is a dual in the works for the 60 series but I am not sure of the Automatic.

the split t-cases ran a 32mm idler in the early years and switched to a stronger 38mm idler which yours has.

Not sure if there any adapters out for doublers for the automatics...KluneV is one place to check, Advance Adapters is another.

Rockhopper out of Australia makes a lower gearset for the 60-62-series transfer cases - 3:1 or 3.4 or something like that...AA might carry it too....

The 3FE of the 62-series was a vast improvement in driveability over the 2F in the 60 series.  Then they used the 3FE in the 91-92 80-series wagons and it sucked again until the 3FZE (??) was installed in 93.
