wiring problems
« on: Oct 24, 2010, 01:35:57 PM »
Im new to wiring cars so Im at a loss on this project... I am working on a FJ that is either a 75 or a 79 and it was taken apart a few years ago and when that owner took it apart he cut up the wiring harness and lost some parts. I decided to get a Painless wiring harness and Im having a few problems with getting the alternator and voltage regulator wired together. Can someone please take some pics of these two items or tell me what the color code is between these two items. there is three prong plug on the back of the alternator and a six wire plug on the voltage regulator... any help that you can come up with will be greatly appreciated

Here's a link to a thread on Mudd running down some of the same info your looking for

Im using an alternator with an internal regulator with all Chevy powertrain, so not much help there. I would guess you are running the factory 6?

Oh another thing, if you still have some connections to make, it is a good idea to solder your connectors and use shrink tubing where practical. This all but eliminates corrosion and arcing. Some dielectric grease helps keep the connector from oxidizing as well.
