just weld it. if you punch the gas while turning, it will break the inside tire loose. make it easier to steer. I have done it. works the same as a locker. just it does not unlock when there is no thrust going to the pinion. Had mine welded in my 81, after I decided the lunch box lockers were junk. never had another problem.

When my Detroit is in locked mode and im on a granite slab or rock, its pretty tough to turn. I would put a lockrite in it for a low buck upgrade. If you weld it your probably going to want to put hydro assist to help you turn. I run 37's and it can be a pain sometimes, but i can get it to unlock with a little of finesse same thing applies with the lockrite.  :twocents:

I would weld it.... I am running front and rear welded diff in my crawler but I have full hydro steering. I have run this set up with out hyd steering and it is a pain to steer but it's cheap and if you break a third member it's real inexpensive to replace. I welded mine and am running 4.10's because they are cheap. Good luck to you.

I usually toss in an EZ-Locker in the front, cheap and easy to install. Oh and if you guys didn't notice the OP was 2008. :gap:

Better to keep an old post alive than start a new one, encased you didn't notice the last  several post where dericted toward my post, not the OP.

I was actually congratulating you on sticking with a known thread instead of starting a new one. Someone finally searched before posting a new thread. :gap:
