85 toyota ex cab spring help
« on: Oct 13, 2010, 03:37:40 PM »
I had heard that you could take your rear springs and bolt them directly to where my front springs would be.  Is that true?  Is there any other fab work that I will need to do on this?  I'm looking for an inexpensive way to lift my rig.  I heard that it gives you right around a 3" lift.  Does anyone know if you need to mess with the spring pack?

Thanks.  I hope someone can help me with this, I'm new to it.

I have a stock 85 as well   My rear spings are about 1 1/2 longer than my front  I think they are 47 ish in the rear and 45 1/2 ish in the front . i dont see how they could bolt up  without  putting a new hanger on the front ?

stock fronts are 46, stock rears are 48.  the rear pack needs to have a couple of leafs added to it to hold the weight of the front end.  it is a direct bolt up, front hanger does not need to move.  shackle will get pushed back, axle moved forward 2 inches, and gain approximately 3-4 inches of lift.  do a search on RUF's(rears up front).  lots of good info and lots of guys here to help you out.  don't forget though, if you do rears up front, you will have to upgrade to cross over steering(another great mod) to make up for the axle being moved.

Stock fronts are 45 .  and i think at the very least you would have to use a longer front shackel .

my bad, i stand corrected.  they are 45.  yes, you would need longer shackes to keep them off the frame.

also depending on how flat the leafs go(how soft they are), you might have to do a little trimming on the body mount to get the shackle to swing back without hitting.  boomerang shackles work great for a fix.
