engine removal
« on: Aug 29, 2010, 09:48:42 AM »
I am currently trying to remove the engine out of my 4runner, but it is not coming out. I removed every bolt that attaches the trans to the engine and the one for the starter. I tried to lift the engine and trans seems to be bolted to it. It is a 22re engine with an auto trans. Also, do I have to drain the transmission fluid? Am I missing something???? I need to get the engine out asap.

you said you tried to lift the engine?  pull forward on it and wiggle it back and forth before you lift up very far.  I have never removed a 22re with an auto before, but I would imagine that you need to wiggle the engine loose from the torque converter before you can lift it out of the truck.  You shouldnt need to drain the tranny for any reason

I meant lifting with an engine hoist. Well I tried rocking it and nothing. I have looked all over and there is nothing holding it together.

dont know what else to tell ya.  Is the block spreading away from the tranny at all? or are they still tight together.  If they are still tight together, you must have missed a bolt somewhere
