Topic: 92 Toyota pick-up SAS questions...

Hi guys I hope I'm posting in the proper forum for this. I am interested in doing a SAS on my 92 toyota pick up. I am a licensed A&P mechanic and have worked as a welder before, I'm wondering if this is something I can easily do out of my garage or if it is better to just take it to a shop. What kind of work (how much chopping will i have to do) is involved in this mod? What kind of cost am I going to be looking at? If any one here has done this before I'd like to hear about your experience! Thanks.

If you are a mechanic & a welder why are you asking?  Yes its easy. about two days of work.

Well this is a new idea for me and I am in Afghanistan so I can't exactly look under my truck to see what I'm dealing with. But I am an A&P mechanic, I work on airplanes not cars. Thanks for the info though, sounds like something I could probably do myself.

If you have mechanic and welding skills then it shouldn't be too hard. Just do some research before you start and you should be fine.

Here is a good place to start researching. It isn't all about SAS's but it will definitely help.

You can use this forum for help or google "toyota sas" and you'll get step by photo instructions on what needs to be cut. As mentioned above, 2 days worth of work.

where is your permanent duty station? theres lots of guys on here stationed throughout that could help, I did mine in a few hours in military housing on eglin AFB.... had the axle assembled and ready to roll under, leafs and all, had the front hanger tacked on and the frame tubes welded in already, jacked up, unbolt and cut off un needed junk (actually I left alot on that got in the way, took it to the auto hobby shop to cut off alot)
I rolled the assembled axle with springs and wheels.. bolted it on front and rear, got it off the jackstands, removed wheels, bolted on my IFS calipers. didnt have to bleed brakes or nothing. the engine wasnt even fully cooled off before I fired it back up and drove it away
