Driveline questions
« on: Jul 12, 2010, 06:36:52 PM »
Have searched for this but since I'm new i wasw unsuccessful.

If I put an IFS year "wider" rear diff what driveline should I then attach?  Is the one from 86-95 a different style?  CV style??  I'm a little confused.  Are the flanges the same bolt pattern?

bolt patterns i believe are the same but 4cy and v6 drivelines use different size bolts. in assuming you have a 80-85 truck and put 86-95 rear end in? the ifs rear end flange uses 10mm bolts and think the older trucks use 8mm. if you run into problems i just bought a triple universal transfer case flange from marlin 30 bucks normally on sale for 10. that would fix any problem you should have. length will be the same with either rear axle.

oh and as far as the c.v you should be fine unless you have a extended cab or more than 3 inches of lift otherwise then you would want a cv. 4-runners and standard cabs dont even run a c.v. stock im pretty sure

Thanks Yota91 for the quick reply.  I have an 85 Xtra cab and want to get a ifs rear end to build up with locker, ect and then put under truck.  I assume I would need two of those flanges correct? One for the rear of the trans and one for the diff. right?
Also, what is the difference between the drivelines?

you lucked out 84-95 1/2 all use 10mm bolt pattern so your stock driveshaft should bolt right up too the pinion flange of the newer i.f.s rear end.
