Rear driveline angle
« on: Dec 08, 2004, 12:34:37 AM »
Hi guys i posted before about this but got side tracked.
Im gettin dual case setup behind my automatic 4runner that is actually lifte 4" at the rear due to the height at the front .
Ive been told that when i put the duals on the extra 6.5" will make the angle way too much so i said ok use a casrin joint shaft they till rekon that it wll be on too much of an angle for it as my daily driver .
So for the guys who have done a dual case setup on the toyota auto what drive shaft do they use ?
Maybe the guys here in aus just dont know but the angle will look pretty steep is there any other type of shaft i can use?
Thanks again
Dave

couldn't tell you bout duals and an auto. but my Bro's Heep had a pretty steep rear d-shaft angle. We just rotated the rear diff to point to the T-case and ran a CV shaft. No vibes at all.

Ok
Been surfin some driveline stores you have over there and they say.

if ya angle is too high you can use  double cardan at both ends.
 What do you guys rekon
I know it will be bulky down near the diff but i dont real wanna chopp all the mounts of diff to rotate it kus i have to get engineerd and then go over to DTP and get em to go all over truk.
Come on guys any ideas.
Thanks Dave

leaf sprung,

We ran a Ford 3.8 EFI in it. But moved it about 2.5-3 inches back. Then used a T-18, Dana 20.
His rear Dana 60 looks like it might have oiling probs. But none so far.
It wasn't that bad to fab up some spring perches. Just used some 2.5 inch square tubing. We just set them in place and bolted everything up, rotated the pinion to where he wanted it and welded the perches. He's ran it like that for almost a year now with no problems.

Thanks Billy
So if i just do the same cut the coil spring mounts and the link arm brakets and rotate the pinnion up that should be okay?
With the oiling could you just overfill it with like 250ml thru the breahter hole on top of the diff for a bit more oil?
Thanks mate

That would work, But IMO it's a lot of cutting and grinding to do. You could get a double CV drive shaft. Those CV's can take a beating. For some reason I was under the impression that you had rear leaves.

Hey billy
Yeah it loos like a lot of work so i wacked on some upper adjustable links and it turned the pinnion up so that is good when i get the duals ill wack the double cv joint on and if needed turn the pinnion a little more .
Which double cardan is best from a ifs front or the solid axle front ?
Thanks for your input mate
Dave

The cv's are the same except the solid axle cv's are clearanced from the factory for more angularity.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Hey WT
So the more clearance the better then ill hunt around and see if i can get 1 from a solid .
Can you clearance the iFS style cv with a grinder or does it weaken it too much .
Cheers
dave
