Anyone heard of Rickard Bumpers?
« on: Feb 12, 2010, 09:37:31 AM »
I was scrolling through the local craigslist parts today when I fould a add for a Rickard compartment rear bumper that came off a 1980 toyota truck complete with a swing away tire carrier and jerry can holder.  He says it's been sitting in storage for 20 years, but it's powdercoated with no rust.  I've never seen or heard of these bumpers before and only found a crappy pic of one on the net.

Does anyone know of or have one of these bumpers?  Any pics on a toyota?

I'm hoping to get a pic back from the guy with the add too.

I found a couple on the Turtle expedition vehicles.  The guy on craigslist sent me some pics:

He gave me a little history lesson on them too.  Apparently they aren't made anymore because Mr. Rickard died in the 90's.

No, it's not what I want for a rear bumper.  I think I will have to fab my own.

I actually knew the guy in the mid '80's, and he was very imaginative. Sorry to hear he died...I was wondering what happened to him. He had a fab shop down in Anaheim, and I'd stop by there every few weeks and drool over the bumpers he made. They are very well made, but tend to be on the heavy duty side. If someone was looking for this type of bumper, I would highly recommend it.
