suspension systems
« on: Apr 12, 2010, 06:44:12 PM »
I am curious about IFS vs. SAS on my 98 Tacoma. I only do intermediate rock crawling type off roading and still use it for a daily driver. I would like to know if i should just upgrade my IFS or do I just go ahead and drop 8-10k on a SAS? What are the advantages/drawbacks of each? Thanks for any info guys.

first you can do an sas for cheaper than 10grand the drawback to a ifs lift is that you go through cvs alot and most ifs lift make your truck look too tall as apposed to an sas where you can keep it low and it has longevity

well lets see, + and - "in my opinon"...  a IFS lift is mosty bolt on kinda stuff.

SAS is all cut and weld and mod kinda stuff. depends on what you can do.

a mild IFS lift is "ok" for mild to mod 4X4ing butt will brake stuff if you push to hard on it.

do not go for the "biggest" IFS lift you can find. if you "need" that much it will cost less to go SAS.

IFS is a little better for a D/D.

SAS...... if your going to  gear down and "crawl" over big stuff, got to have it.

that the short verson and remember it's just my  :twocents:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

i think you should just upgrade the IFS if its not a dedicated ORV and still use it as a DD. The ifs will hold up just fine with upgraded axle shafts and CVs.

If you do not beat on it hard and only run easy to moderate trails IFS is fine.  Lock the rear and put some 33's on it.  Learn to drive it the way it is and upgrade accordingly. My 2 cents

tacobellzey asked about his 98 taco first. i'm still curious about my 90 4runner w/22re. i've heard 3" could be enough maybe :turtle:, but procomp 4" is too soft springs :hammerhead:, and i've been wheeling for years beating up lifts and prerun racing huge lifted trucks. i've learned my style and am on a serious budget being a single dad. i think i'll outgrow any ifs quick and believe i'll use an sas lift to the fullest :driving:. thoughts? ideas on where & how to do sas cheap but long lasting in vegas? :crossed: oh, plus be safe for my lil 2yr old girl who always wants to go "to the mountains DAddy, with uncle Brian(aka tacobellzey)"

I think what matters is if you want good on-road and off-road manners. If you are not daily driving it then go ahead SAS it, but if you want to drive it both on and off and want good stability on-road then I'd leave it IFS. An SAS will radically change the on-road characteristics.
