Oil Leak
« on: Mar 12, 2010, 12:07:10 PM »
Can someone give me an idea where common oil leaks come from on the 3vze. I already resealed the oil pan (PITA).  I also put in a new rear main seal (again PITA).  I resealed the valve covers using Toyota FIPG and the Toyota gaskets.  My drip areas are coming from the passenger side somewhere and dripping off the passenger side of the tranny.  I want to get this fixed before the roundup ( I know I have a little bit of time) but I don't want to reseal all this stuff.

Any idea how to trace the leak back to it's origin?

Very common for the rear cam plugs to leak at the rear of both heads. Hard to locate and a bugger to reseal.

Can I replace those without removing the cams? Does anyone have a guide as to how to do this? Does it involve removing the cam gears or, if if have to pull the cams, will the just come out?

Btw. Thanks for the info Marlin.

just remove your intake and then your valve cover, then your rear cam bearing and pull on the plug straight up, then put a film of rtv on the plug and two dollips of rtv where the other half of the cam cup joins the plug and torque to the right spec and walla! no more leak!
