« on: Mar 05, 2010, 06:33:22 AM »
Ok I'm new to the offroading seen and need help.... I seen the other day that my front driveside axle's boot was broke off the axle...  And I need someone to tell me how to change the axle.... I've done them on Honda's before, but never a 4wd... I have a 87 toyota ext cab pickup 22RE....

A good trick is once you get the axle out, remove the 6 studs and replace them with bolts it makes changing them alittle easier the next time.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

I like to take the hub off, then the snap ring, and put another jack under the bottom a-arm and then rotate the inner shaft of the diff. so that it lines up and slides out with minimal difficulty. And taking 2 Studs out is a great advantage. Plus you don't have to pull out the ball joint.

YES IT DOES!!!! grade 8 1/2in bolts IIRC and grade 8 Nylocks. I ran them on my IFS trucks. I blew CVs frequently.

X2

I did this when i changed to 5.29s but i never blew a cv... knock on wood... my torsion bars were cranked and it was a PITA to take the axle out at all... i ended up having to pop the upper balljoint off....but i have done it without before
Those are some huge welds!
