NP231 crawler box
« on: Feb 22, 2010, 12:06:25 PM »
I'm helping Dr-Phat, Adam, on here build his 84 truggy.  I have a NP231 out of an XJ that I picked up as a spare for my rig a while back.  Is it possible to turn it into a crawler box for the toyota t-case or is it better to try and hunt down another t-case from a 4banger toy?  Just trying to use part we already have.

thanks Drew

the NP231 is a chain drive case and uses a planetary reduction method for 4-low. there is a company that makes a 4:1 kit, but they are $1k or more and you have to use the entire length of the case to make it work.

a toyota crawl box would be a much better choice, it's much shorter, and has much more aftermarket support.
