30mm flange nut on the output shaft Help!
« on: Feb 03, 2010, 03:47:44 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knows what the 30mm flange nut on the output shaft of a W-56 should be torqued to and is it possible to have a whining noise in your transmission from having it too tight??

90 ftlbs.

I doubt it on the noise.........

But there's always a slight noise anyway.

wow I didn't think it would be that much. Ya it's definitely not overtightened then. The noise is a whiney type of metal grinding noise.. It's most noticeable in 5th but it also does it in 4th however it's only while accelerating. My G-52 did the same thing in 3-5th, I figured the bearings were just starting to go out but now I'm not so sure.. Do these transmissions usually make noise?? I haven't noticed it in the past few years of owning my toyotas but maybe I just missed it??  :dunno:
