Topic: will a 3rd gen bumper fit a 2nd gen

I've been looking for a winch bumper for my 2nd gen 87 pickup for a while. I found a few 3rd gen bumpers on cl for pretty cheap. I don't have a welder right now. I have a beefy grinder and drill though and can probably bend tabs a little. I googled this for about a hour with no luck.

So Will a 3rd gen bumper fit on a 2nd gen? Any major work needed?

No, not w/o a lot work.  The 3rd gen bumpers mount to the side of the frame, while the 2nd gen mount to the front of the frame.  I fab'd up some "L" brackets to mount the bumpers I make for 3rd gens that allows me to use the bumpers design on 2nd gens, but they certainly wouldn't be strong enough to use w/a winch.  I also don't think there would be enough room to use an "L" bracket and on premade 3rd gen bumper.

Thanks for your info. Guess I'll just keep looking. Maybe this thread will pop up now when people google. I was trying to stay away from brackets and I did not think they would hold up to the force from a winch either. I don't wanna get new but I'm thinking I might have to. Been looking at marlin and arb's.
