Aluminum Rims
« on: Nov 16, 2009, 09:32:26 PM »
Who makes a great, strong aluminum rim? I'm looking for a very thick outer lip/bead. I've seen a few but I have no idea what brand they where.  :dunno: Not looking at beadlocks yet. Still sees way too much highway.

WHY aluminum why not steel

for the most part aluminum breaks and steel bends as a rule( no discusion needed)

I know the difference and that's why I want aluminum :) . A broken rim is the same as a bent one for me. I can't run either on the highway. But Al is harder to break that steel is to bend.  :twocents:

But I'm having problems with the lip on my Al. It is weaker and can't be un-bent. I don't want to weld in lip enforcements. So, is there a rim with a large/thick outer/inner lip?  :dunno:

PS. I'm weak and I like light rims  :ladys-man:

I have been running aluminum rims for 3 years 15x8 w/39.5s Iroks! I blew my first bead three weeks ago, when I rolled over on passinger side while sliding down a water fall backwords.4psi is what I run in the rears,5psi in fronts, no bead locks!I have ran the most difficult trails I can find in the south east, friends I wheel with can not beleive how they stay on.One guy in our group has ran the 32 bolt bead lock steel wheels and has blown the bead off the inside of his wheels as many as five times a day running 12 psi, on a three day trip thats a lot of time two get tire back on.( no bends in his wheels either)
86 pick up 39's ,propane ,5:29's longs ,Detroit 's duel cases w/4:70 in rear case, twin stick, ceramic clutch ,rear disk brake convertion, cut and rotated front axle, inboard rear springs, exo cage, flat bed

Hi,
Would like some input on procomp wheels in general because I am thinking of buying a set :headscratch:

Was thinking steel was better for mudding over here and was looking at type 52 or 98 in 15X8 with 2.5" BS for 33" BFG AT's, this is also my DD :)

Any comments would be greatly appriciated

Sorry if its a bit out of topic

Thanks

As aforementioned the Mickey Thompson Classic II's have been around a long time and have a reputation of being pretty tough.

Nihal, I work at a tire shop and have never seen a steel pro comp wheel runout smooth.  Why do you want to change from aluminum to steel anyway?

Hi
I want to "change" because of the following

1) my present Alu wheels (ET-13) are hitting a very little bit on the tie rod ends, I know its funny, it started after fitting FJ80 Rod ends.

2) I need to get them cleaned up, cut and polished, as they are almost 20years old!!! but in very good shape.

3) As this is also my DD I would like to have a seconed set for mudding,,,,,,if possible and $ permits

So I have to get a set of wheels with a smaller BS 2.5''-3.00''. Not too happy with useing wheels spacers on out of town roads,,,,,, and I also like the black dished wheels.

If you are in a position to direct me to a website or link in this matter, that would be great, so I know the wheels I will import will be good, as the US overland shipping cost is a killer.

I am thankfull that you responderd at the right time  as I have spoken to PC today,,,, lucky me!!!  :crossed:

Thanking you

Nihal

You'd probably be fine with them and may not even notice the runout, I just wanted to throw it out there.  A lot of factory wheels have runout too, as do lots of aftermarket wheels.  I'm just picky
