a new project
« on: Feb 11, 2007, 10:36:29 AM »
i have a 85 toyota pickup and i found a really good deal on a frame and body of a 91 extra cab and i was wanted to take all my stuff (22r trans dual cases) from my 85 and put it in there but still keep the new dash. my 85 is carb  but plan on converting it to a efi. do i have to change the wiring harness or is all the connector the same. i would think that i may have to but dont really want to. or if i do the efi right now can i keep the stock wiring harness? any help on this would be apprecitted.

You will need to use the EFI harness, nothing on the carbed harness will work.

that is a bummer so then the 91 harness is it set up to use a efi even if it used to have a v6 in it. does all the plug just plug in the sensors? and the harness that is all one piece between the cab right.

you'll need a 4cyl harness, efi intake, maf sensor, o2 sensor, and 4cyl ecu. easiest way is to get a propane kit for your 22r. another thing is the 91 is IFS (more than likely) and you'll have to do some fab work to your solid axle fom your 85 in there.

yeah i made it i plan on trying to do a step by step on how i made mine but you have to have some sort of fab skills.  it is pretty simple to some dagree. if you have to two top shifts then it will be a little harder than mine since i have a one forward and a top shift rear.

well i got some work done on the yota in the last few weeks. i have got it painted. put my cup holders in the doors and removed 14 inches of frame in the back moved my axle forward 9 inches and it has a wheel wlenght of 115 now instead of 124. also turned my rear leaf springs around so the long side is in the front. which allowed me to have 5 less inches sticking out the back. also fab up my rock sliders out of .188 x 1.5 dom and plan on getting the bed done soon. got my cb installed too.

there was a boat store here in town that sold those 2 dollars apiece. you can hold a can or a big sports bottle. you have to cut a 3.75 inch hole for them to fit.

You're not leaking anything are you?  In the pics the ground looks wet below your rig.
Are you going to add a little more bracing to the cage back there, like an X behind the cab and maybe a diagnol tube down from the mid-rear part of the (front/back)uppers?

Nice work, by the way.  Bring it out for the Marlin Roundup...

the shifter i made my self out of garage doors parts that as lyig around the shop i dont have ny pics of them anymore wheni was making then my hard rive went south and lost abunch of stuff including those pictures. sorry but when i have a minute i can write you a long list of parts that i used. when i get in to tig welding then they will be easier to make. i have made about 4 sets for some friends and am working on one that i can make for a twin top shift case set up as most of my freinds have a forward shift and a top shift. what cases do you have?

sorry for bring something this old back but needed a update the truck went in on the 4 of july and for the marlin round up it did great but the engine has died. time to do a motor swap.

was going to drop in a 383 stroker that my father in law had laying around but when i looked up the crank casting numbers turned out to be a 350. bummer.

was looking on craigslist one day and found it the engine i was looking for originally. a 1995 vortec v6 cpi 190 hp beauty. and for 200.00 so went and check out and bought it with wiring harness. but no fuel injector or ecm. but went to pick n pull and found the one that i need as per a painless model number .but that was alright as i like new parts anyway more reliable i think. so i have order the gasket set to reseal the engine and check it out to see if i hadnt bought a lemon. all looks well i can even still see the cross hatching on the bores. so going to start on this after x-mas as i have promised that i wouldnt spend money on it untill then.

The Plan

chevy vortec v6 cpi
th400 reverse manual valve body with compression breaking
a winters sidewinder with a rockcrawler gate in it. allows you to shift from first to reverse bye pushing straight forward.
and for the transfer case was thinking of keeping my toy ones or a atlas 4 speed with a 10.something crawl gear.

so wht do you think. i havent been able to find a adapter that fits a th400 to toy cases yet any one got answers on that one? but there is the update if anyone cares.
