R151F tailshaft swap onto R150F?

Okay, I am thinking that my transmission is toast. 1st through 3rd gear whine pretty loud but 4th, 5th and reverse are still quiet. I have an R151F that I can't afford to get rebuilt. I can get a cheap R150F. I want to swap my Marlin Crawler bellhousing and tailshaft from the R151F to the R150F. Never tried to do this before. Any special tools I need to swap tailshafts? I am looking at pics and the R151F has forward shift shifter base, and the R150F has none as the chain drive case is topshift. Any guidance? Going to start this tomorrow if I get the transmission tonight. HELP...

Okay, got the transmission put together and it seemed to shift okay. After putting in the detent ball and spring it doesn't want to shift anymore. I put it in the truck and the stick moves side to side fine, but no forward back. its stuck in a gear but looks like its in neutral. Any ideas?

If you had it in nuetral before the install, it probably shifter into a gear.  Expessially if you had the detent balls out.  If this is the case you need to find a way to get it back to nuetral, then shift it into a gear before you try to install it.  The best way I have found is to lightly drop it(emphasis on light) on either the tailshaft or the bellhousing.

I *think* that its stuck in reverse since the rear most gear below the output shaft is engaged (that is reverse, isn't it?) So would I need to drop it on the bellhousing side or the output shaft side?

Yup you were right. I took out the tranny and dropped it on the tailshaft side (on a 2x4 so no damage) and it freed up that stuck gear. I made sure to put the detent ball back in and that it still shifted fine before actually reinstalling it all. So its a hybrid V6/Turbo trans now and shifts great. Thanks for the help.
