93 pickup waterleak
« on: Nov 07, 2009, 04:47:21 PM »
just got the truck, went for a boot the other day, after it had been raining.  was going around a corner and a big puddle of water came through the pass side carpet.  so i pulled the carpet up a little and the water was coming out of the rocker panel, below the engine ecu through a hole that part of the harness goes into the rocker.  any ideas on where this could have come from? vapor barriers have been replaced

above the gromet where the ecu is the cab rusts out bad. take off the wheel well liner and the cowel, you will find rusty holes
i used some epoxy putty and fiberglass.

this is easy to fix if you never worked with fiberglass, cuz it does not need to be pretty it just needs to seal well
just scrape off all the rust and prime it then cut samll sheets of fiberglass mix small amounts of resin and layer on,.

in the cowel i would also buy autobody seam sealer in caulking tubes and at each corner of the cowel i would just flood in the a half of the tube of stuff and reach in with rubber gloves and smash it into the seams

also if your looking up through the wheel well you will see a crappy factory hole where 3 body pannels come together and water collects.  plug this up to.

make sure the drain for the cowl stays clear.
also check behind the hood hinges for soft metal it is most likely rusted out but dont worry if you do what i said you can save your truck from furhter dAmage.

do you have a sunroof? because my 93 did something very similar due to the fact that the sunroof drains through rubber tubes into a channel under the plastic trim at the edge of the cab. the channel should drain through the pinch seam on both sides of the truck but if the seam is cloged the channel will fill up and overflow into the truck.
