Removable Sliders.
« on: Oct 04, 2009, 05:41:10 PM »
Has anybody made removable sliders?

I'm thinking that using receiver tubes would actually make it easier.

Probably only need the 1 1/4" square tubes.      4 per side......

Why would you want to remove them?

After you bang them up, you can pull them off to fix/replace

i made mine removable on project extend-a-toy...  i ended up sleeving holes in my frame and then using 1/2 inch bolts to bolt my sliders on..  it was a little work to do all the sleeving but its more work to have to cut everything off and weld everything on again should they have to come off.  my reasoning was that if i bent them up too bad and needed to replace them i would rather unbolt than torch..

All the ones I have made are removable.  I weld up a base consisting of a 4"x"3 flat stock and a 4" piece of square tube(I prefer square tube sliders).  I then weld the mounts(4/side) to the frame, then bolt the slider onto two of the mounts.

I have also seen a clamshell style mount that goes over the frame(easier w/BL), that the sliders then bolt to.
