Bump steer on an IFS
« on: Oct 03, 2009, 12:44:08 PM »
I have had a lift on my 05' Tundra for about 4 years now and with in the last year or so it has been getting real bad bump steer. I stepped down from 35" tire to a 33" and that seems to be about the time it started. I put in stiffer bushings on the rack and pinion but it didn't seem to help. I'm not sure what else to do! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

and a SAS is not an option at this time.  :hammerhead:  :moon:

Have you replaced the steering stabilizer?

Worn ball-joints and tie-rod ends can also cause bump steer.

It could be your caster.  Is your Tundra lifted?

yeah it has 6" lift. I just had the alignment done yesterday, toed out a little on both sides, didnt fix the bump steer though.

not sure what you mean? it has rack and pinion steering.

You still have ball-joints(suspension) and inner/outer tie-rods(steering linkage) which when worn can still cause bump steer.  There bight be a way to install a steering stabilizer which would reduce the bump steer.

If you don't have it yet, here is downloadable Tundra FSM, that might help you.
