Greasing Oil Seals and sealant
« on: Dec 12, 2009, 11:08:31 AM »
Hi,

I'm replacing the oil seals on my 91 3vze, the manual says to put grease on the inner and outer edges of the seal. What type of grease is good?
I am also replacing the water pump and oil pump, what is a good sealant, I have some orange stuff for the oil pan, is this ok for the water/oil pumps too?

Cheers,
Michael

Hondabond ht is good stuff for the sealant. And just use whatever grease is in your grease gun.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

Werd, I just use pretty much whatever grease I have around, wheel bearing or multi purpose.

When making my own seals, like a pan gasket seal, I just use toyota fipg.  Tranny and case gaskets, or side case gaskets (motorbike) I use permatex ultra gray.  If there's an o-ring, just clean everything really well and install that, don't mess it up with sealant.

Toyota FIPG black is not compatable with gear oil, it will start leaking. Orange is for gear oil, black for engine oil.

I use cvs petroleum jelly on all my o-rings /seals  it will dissipate faster in oil then grease will  a must for when you doing hydro clutch packs.    but for what your working  on what every you got laying around should work.

just make sure you surfaces where the silicon will be is clean/dry :)

Good thing I don't run gear oil in my engine then  :haha:
