e-brake line
« on: Oct 29, 2010, 07:31:57 PM »
Hey guys. I am just wondering how to tighten the e brake line. It doesnt work when it is fully pulled out. The line has a ton of slop when not engaged and its a little sloppy when it is engage. How would i go about fixing this and/or tightening the line?

Thanks guys!

The cable may be broken.  Pull the aluminum housing and roller (under hood, on firewall) and check.  The barrrel shaped cable end on both of my 1st Gen cabs were broken.  I found a new cable at Autozone for around $30.  There is also an adjustment under there... in front of the fuel tank, if the cable is ok.  Also may want to make sure the rear brakes are adjusted properly, if everything else looks legit.

I'd check under hood first.  Two 12mm nuts to loosen the cable cap/guide and check that end of the cable.  If strands are frayed/broken but still mostly intact, adjustment at the frame might buy a little time.  Make sure the rear shoes are adjusted properly before you mess with the e-brake cable adjustment under the cab.

I know what the problem is with my e-brake.... just haven't repaired it yet.  I'm carrying around a piece of broken cinder block to kick under a tire!

Make sure they are adjusted with a slight drag when turned.
