smog
« on: Oct 02, 2004, 01:31:37 PM »
My truck didn't pass smog today.   :headscratch:  I need a new vacuum line, and gas cap and the idle and timing is off.  And i don't have the exhaust shield going from the air filter to the exhaust manifold.  Murchies is going to fix it today and then smog it again for another $100 or so bucks.  Hopefully it will pass.   :crossed:  If not then i might just forget about it and buy a dd car, i need one anyway.  that way i can green sticker my truck and trailer it to the trails.  I want to do that anyway.  Maybe i don't want it to pass.  We'll see.

did it pas the sniffer test. put rubbing alcohol in the gas tank. seriously. put in a pint or 2 depending on how full the tank is...i put in 2 or 3 for good measure.

the things you listed are pretty easy to fix...you failed the visual.

also, always do the pre test...you don't want to be labeled a gross polluter.

i always hate it when it's smog time...it's the governments way of taxing air.
there is a thread about how to beat a smog test somewhere on this board.

I hered we don't have Pre-smog in El Dorado County.  Anyway it passed the second time today with the problems fixed.  New gas cap, vacuum hose, and the hose that goes from the air filter to the exhaust manifold.  I didn't have one or a heat shield.  And He adjusted the timing.  But the new hose for the air filter he put on was hitting on the exhaust manifold and smoking.  It didn't smell to good either.  I took that off right as i got home.  It runs a little different because of the timing i guess.

if i remember right...spec is 5 degrees and you can be off by like 3. so i'm pretty sure the range is 2-8 degrees. one of my toys was at 9 and the bastards failed it(pre test)...passed all the other inspections though. i busted out the timeing light when i got home and made it right. i had to reschedule an appointment and take more time off work.

I think they said it was at 16 degrees.  they set it back to 5 which they said was spec.  It runs a little different.  I can't tell if it has more power or not.
