Dont be offended by the simplicity of this response, I am being serious, but have you checked if its as simple as a rock in one of your tires? This can make a tapping noise that of course has an increased tempo with increased vehicle speed.

no, no, no, stuck on one of the treads. You drive over some rocks and pick up some small pebble. I had one in Marlin's 1-ton 2wd pickup and it got it while cruising on the freeway. Just all of a sudden it started making a hitting noise, so I pulled over to see what was hitting my tire, like a piece of plastic from the body trim or something, couldnt find anything, air pres looked good, continued driving, it was pretty annoying, pulled over again, started feeling around the tire and found just a small rock in one of the tread grooves. Used a screw driver to pry it out and got it. Just a thought so you dont dig deep and just over look something simple. I know cuz I always overlook the simple things :smack:
