bent fame????
« on: Jan 05, 2011, 04:19:58 PM »
couple months ago was driving i just put a new ifs box on my 83 pick up and was going around a sharp turn when the box locked or binded up and my wheel was locked turned ended up going off the road and hitting a tree. the body damage was very minor just the bumber was smashed and hood barley pushed in. i never really thought much about the frame cause i wasent going fast and it was i thin tree but i noticed my truck sits about two inches lower on the side i hit it on so i checked frame hights and the passenger side is about a inch lower then driver. so obvosley its bent i checked for cracks or anything didnt find any. just wondering if its dangerous to keep driving on. i have been driving it for about a month or two havent noticed anything dif. and you think any shops would be able to striaghten it out alittle.

ill gets some pics up soon thanks.

Yes, but it will not be cheap. I would check the springs first.

Maybe measure the gap from the axle to the frame, to see if the spring is flat?

yes i did meausure from axle to frame and i found a about a inch dif. whitch yea the spring is flatter but would a bent down frame be pushing the spring down making it like that. cause i dont see how hiting a tree make a leave go flat goes it wasent like that before the tree.

I know you measured your axle to frame.  Did you check that RF body mount, or any of them ?  I think you have a combination of things, but not your frame.  Are your tires scrubbing, this would indicate a frame or axle problems.  Heck a blown spring bushing, could cause a lean.  I have nailed deer, trees, railings, building and rocks, and its always been something other than the frame.  :twocents:

ya where i went off there was a good two or three foot ditch that i went over but when i went over i never felt it so i figured it kinda jumped it but it all happened fast so ya it could possibly be from that.

ya my core support is pushed back maybe a inch and my body mount/body lift block is bent back or at a angle thats what i thought it was at first. so ya it probably is that and part flat spring
