He probably replaced the rear end. :dunno:
Could you please clarify what exactly you are wanting to do.

i have the wider ifs rear in mine and 1.5" spacers up front with 2.5" bs wheels.
no problems so far, but i trailer mine.
i wouldn't go wider than 2" spacers.
your trunion and wheel bearings will really start paying the price.

derek

If you build it right you can put 2 1/2 inch wheel spacers without hurting anything.  My friend had 2 1/2 in ws and 37's and jumped it quite a few times.  He didn't do anything to the truck.  It ran good any everything untill he sold it.  BTW,  the more backspace on the wheel will put more stress on the bearings.  It's like having a wheel spacer on it.

:)If you have the IFS year rear axle then I'd go with the 1.5 inch front spacers to get them even.  I think the brakes are what make the difference in the early/late widths...  If you go too wide, say 10 inches (haha), then your tires will rub on the fender under compression or limit compression.  I have 1.5 inch spacers up front and an '87 rear axle and the widths are the same, using 10 inch rims/35 inch tires/generic backspacing. Hope my $0.02 helps.
