Temp sensor
« on: Feb 06, 2009, 04:55:53 PM »
What have you guys done to install an after market temp gauge? I have a 22re out of a 91 truck, and can't find anywhere to install the threaded sensor part of the gauge to the head. There are a couple temp sensor ports by the water intake but they are for sensors for the computer. So wondering where you guys have installed them.

I have also been pondering about this my self  and was thinking of a tee  in one of the sensor holes  or a new hole tap/thread   but like many of my "to do things" it's some where under the stack of other half done "to do things"

I installed an autometer temp gauge and just went to the factory sender next to the thermostat. I can snap a pic for you tomorrow if you want

Ya, if you could. Cause I have two sensors there, just not sure if I take one out if it will effect the computer or not. But yours runs fine huh?

I was thinking about seeing if my friend could tig weld another threaded bung or something on the thermostat housing if I couldn't figure something out. I was thinking a tee maybe too. But the sensors are pretty long.

You could buy the universal adapter thing that you splice your upper hose in half with and it has a hole for the sensor and then it comes with two hose clamps.

Well considering its aluminum, its metal. So it fits both things that you want.

Ok so i went out 2 the shed and i have a cheap water temp gauge with mech  set up  and my spare 93 manifold.

it gose right in little loose tho nothing paste and a o-ring wont fix  or tap ut the other hole I forget wich sensor is wich even tho i cover that in another tread :hammerhead:

perfect fit in this hole  ( but i would not use it that sensor needs 2 be there and theres no room for modification )

ok heres a   maybe a tee here  but will probly have 2 be done with the manifold off

I was thinking of making something like that. Figure there is enough room on the hose.

Can't open the links from Autometer, the interent over on this base I'm at right now is being a pain in the @$$.  :shake:

Thanks for the help and ideas guys.  :beerchug:

For sure man. the little adapter thing would be easy as hell to make but its not too expensive to just buy it.
