r150f options??????
« on: Oct 28, 2007, 06:21:59 PM »
OK so I have a '00 taco w/ the R150F .......whines like hell. Does it setting still w/ clutch disengaged (in neutral) and stops when clutch is depressed???? Also screams 1-3 gear, nothing in 4th or 5th. I put an OEM clutch kit, new seals and redline mt90 in it this week end and nothing has changed. Shifts fine in all gears, just anoying as hell.

I ordered a marlin r150f w/ 5-1-5, but canelled the order as I just cant swing the 2400.00 less the 700.00 core. So I guess my question is; what options do I have  (older r150f's?) and could it possibly be somthing besides the mainshaft/countershaft bearings?

Thanks in advance.

-Josh

Some info from another board...

older model trannys have a shorter input shaft and bellhousing that i don't think will work in a tacoma, they also have the slave cyl. mounted on the pass. side instead of the driver side. hope some of this helps. [/QB]

4th gear input runs all the time, even in revearse, thats why you hear it in every gear except 4th and 5th. you dont hear it in 4th because you're actually using it and its not free running-it doesn't effect 5th gear.

I would still love any input on the topic though??

i am in the same exact boat as you as far as money being tight and my r150f being noisey. it also is hard to shift and my clutch is worn. im going to try to find a local low mileage replacement and just hope it dosent whine yet.

if its hard to shift then it probably is the bearing.  try trdparts4u.com

I had replaceed the clutch, t.o. bearing, PP before this thread.

I went with a low milage p-n-p tranny.... cured the prob. Still spent 650.00 and sat though. Well worth being rid of the god awfull whine though.

Update......

I traded that truck for a 99 runner w/ 3.4/5sp. (same r150f) It has the same whine on a lower scale. I also looked/test drove a 95.5 t-100 with the 3.4/5sp ( pre taco r150f) and it had the same wine. I refuse to put a tranny in this runner as I really think it may be the lack of grease on the throwout bearings in these trucks. Any thoughts? Is this a comon problem with this tranny?

My 68,000-mile 2000 4Runner does the same thing.  I am 3.5 hours from Marlin's shop, so I plan bring the truck by and have Marlin diagnose.  I figure it will either be a throw out bearing or a transmission rebuild, not sure which.

Had my motor pulled for a rebuild and the clutch was worn down to the rivets, still locked up good though. I ordered a marlin 1200lb clutch kit should be here by the end of the week.  :woohoo:  :woohoo:
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
 Marlin 1200LB clutch

 no substitute for 4wheel drive.

Well ther is a deff. differance between a noisy TO bearing the the abnormal gear mesh sound that the trucks I've heard it on. I just cant get over the fact that that many can make noise, and how long before it goes BANG!??

I love the 3.4's power but the 2.7's i've had I worried avout less and had fewer noise's

I just wish we knew whether it was clutch-related or the transmission itself.  Since we haven't heard much from Marlin or anyone else, I am presuming that there aren't common countershaft bearing problems in these trucks and it must be the clutch.  Marlin staff?

Any updates on this? I have a 95.5 T-100 that had this same noise so I replaced the clutch, throw out bearing, and pilot, but the noise is still there.

it has to be the bearings inside the tranny itself. mine still does it, i replaced my clutch with a marlin. changed fluid to royal purple. not that itll help with the noise we have, we will see how long it lasts the way i beat on my truck
