aw4 toy tcase options
« on: Aug 31, 2004, 01:04:30 PM »

Need a little help here.. Put a 4.0 with aw4 from a cherokee into my land cruiser but wanting to use toy tcases.  My aw4 is 21 spline will a r1fa tcase bolt right up to it? I have heard that the aw4 and a340 are almos the same transmission.

any help there would be great thanks

The trannies are the same, intenally but the cases are totally different.  You'll need an adapter for the swap to work.  AA make the adapter you need Im pretty sure.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I like yota cases as a rule but I *think* a dana 300 will bolt up with no adapters.  You'd be best to check with AA on that but I am thinking they share the same bolt pattern, Im not sure about the spline count though.  What can I say its a jeep thing Im a yota freak

Pretty sure the 300 and the toyota 23 spline share the same spline but not the 21, only saying that because the mainshaft for my tranny adapter to toyota case said Dana 300 on it and it works with my toyota cases.

i'll see if i can't find the adapter for yota cases that was my first choice. seeing that it is easily setup for dual cases later on. I think my only problem now is keeping the drivetrain short enough for the cruiser
mix it up.

you are right brandon about the 23 spline. with the 21 spline tranny i have now i am stuck with the np231.. but with the 23 splice aw4 i can go with the dana300.   i was just hoping for better gearing options.
mix it up.
